Geographically, the Central Valley may be subdivided into northern and southern portions. The northern part, the Sacramento Valley, encompasses 10 counties, and the southern, or San Joaquin Valley, encompasses 8 counties. These two sub-regions are large, some 450 miles long and typically 40 to 60 miles wide, and internally diverse.
The California Central Valley provides 25% of the world and 50% of the USA agricultural commodities. bof TM is located in Fresno, CA. which is square in the middle of the southern, San Joaquin Valley. Fresno is home to a population of 500,000 and home to CSUF (California State University Fresno) and their famous 'Bulldogs' football team. The significance of our Valley is well presented through the following two links: (new) ' California's San Joaquin Valley' and (although somewhat dated) 'A Statistical Tour of California's Great Central Valley'. Give yourself the pleasure of a visit to these two sites. |
